GSUMC – Role Description

Role:                   Building & Grounds Committee

 

Ministry Area:     Resource Ministries - Trustees, Buildings and Grounds Committee

 

Purpose 

 

Term:                  Annual, may be renewed.


Role Summary:

This is a work area specifically created for Gum Spring UMC. The coordinator of this work area is responsible for the maintenance (other than weekly cleaning) of the church building and its grounds. This person should work closely with, and under the direction of the Board of Trustees, as the Trustees are responsible for all property of the church. Typically at Gum Spring, when a number of maintenance tasks are needed to be done (2 or 3 times a year), this coordinator will plan a work day where all church members are invited to lend a hand in accomplishing these tasks.


Responsibilities:

     1.  Member of the Building & Grounds Committee

     2.  Responsible for the maintenance of the physical plant. Work can be done by B & G, or delegated to other members, or contracted out (to be accomplished with in budget guidelines).

     3.  Emergency repairs can be made without approval of Administrative Council. All other expenditures above routine maintenance, (lights, minor plumbing, painting and patching), must be approved by the Council.

     4.  Reports to the Trustees through the Chair.
